Former President Joe Biden is reportedly supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris in her 2024 bid for the presidency. This comes after campaign aides said she refused to withdraw from her previous candidacy.
David Plouffe, a key advisor to Harris’s campaign and co-author of CNN’s Jake Tapper, openly criticized the former president for his role in their electoral defeat.
An excerpt shared by The Guardian highlights that Plouffe, who served as a senior advisor during Obama’s presidency, described Harris’s 107-day campaign against Donald Trump as a “nightmare.”
Plouffe remarked, “And it’s all Biden. He totally hit us,” indicating his discontent with the situation.
He mentioned that he raised concerns about Biden’s mental and physical health following a disastrous first debate against Trump, which worried donors.
Despite these concerns, Plouffe said he was reassured that the president could still secure another election victory.
The White House maintained publicly that Biden was healthy during this period.
Eventually, however, Biden stepped back from the race after holding on for another three weeks.
“I have great affection for Joe Biden. When it comes to common sense, there’s not much like him in politics. Still, it was detrimental for both the nation and the party for his family and advisors to allow him to run again,” he added.
Reflecting on the election, he stated, “It was hatred. He took the election from the Democrats. He took it from the American people,” expressing his strong sentiments as a longtime Democratic strategist.
