President Biden told a gathering of about 20 Democratic governors at the White House on Wednesday night that they needed to get more sleep, work fewer hours and avoid events held after 8 p.m., despite indications that they could only handle the rigors of their jobs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Biden’s comments were reported by The New York Times, citing two people who attended the key meeting and others who were briefed on the remarks.
At the same rally, Biden responded to a question about his health from Hawaii Governor Josh Green by saying he was in good health but that the only problem was “my brain,” a response that was clearly intended as humor but was not understood by at least one state leader in the room, according to the outlet.
After his disastrous June 27 debate with Republican front-runner Donald Trump in Atlanta, the president made a shocking admission about his limitations, even as he repeatedly stated his intention to continue running for a second term.
The president blamed his lackluster performance on his frequent international travel, despite spending 10 days in the Eastern Time Zone before the debate and a week preparing at Camp David.
A few days after the debate, Axios reported, citing White House aides, that the president was prone to gaffes and fatigue when attending events that took place before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
