The Biden administration plans to offer work authorization and deportation protections to illegal immigrants who are married to American citizens, provided they have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years.
The program, called “Parole in Place,” would provide permanent legal status and a path to U.S. citizenship for hundreds of thousands of immigrants. CBS News reported.
The bill would gut existing law by removing obstacles that prevent people who enter the U.S. illegally from obtaining green cards without having to leave the country.
Another plan being pushed by President Biden would make it easier for immigrants to obtain temporary visas, such as the H-1B visa for highly skilled workers, by allowing them to apply for waivers, sources told CBS News.

The measures could be announced as early as Tuesday, when White House officials are scheduled to host an event to mark the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects from deportation 530,000 illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children.
It is expected to face significant backlash from Republican lawmakers.
