Biden to swipe at Trump in State of the Union

President Biden plans to take a thin line at former President Trump in Thursday’s State of the Union address, according to excerpts shared by the White House ahead of the 9 p.m. EST speech.

“My life has taught me to embrace freedom and democracy. A future based on the core values that have defined America: integrity, decency, dignity, and equality. “To respect everyone. To give everyone a fair chance. We can’t give a safe space to hate,” Biden would say, according to the excerpt.

“Some of my contemporaries now see a different story, a story of American resentment, revenge, and retaliation. That’s not me,” Biden plans to say.

Although he did not mention Trump by name, his comments were an implicit criticism of the former president, who is now the Republican candidate and is expected to face Biden in the November general election. Mr. Biden is 81 years old and Mr. Trump is 77.

The White House has also predicted that Biden will criticize Trump over the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to end Roe v. Wade, and the former president’s appointment of three conservative justices. The former president has repeatedly claimed credit for the incident.

“People who are bragging about overturning Roe v. Wade clearly don’t know anything about the power of women in America,” Biden will say, according to the excerpt. “But they found out when reproductive freedom came up on the ballot and won in 2022 or 2023, and they will find out again in 2024.”

Biden has said he would sign a bill that would restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land, but there is little chance such a bill would pass a divided Congress.

In his speech Thursday night, Biden is expected to highlight the accomplishments of the past three years, including a variety of bipartisan gains on infrastructure and economic investments.

He also shared his vision for his second term and that of Trump, who has frequently described the United States as a “Third World country” that would “go to hell” under Biden’s leadership, citing inflation and conflict. It is expected that there will be a clear contrast between the two. a surge in overseas migration and immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border;

“I came into office determined to get through one of the most difficult times in this country’s history. And we did. It doesn’t make the news, but thousands of cities and towns… “The American people are writing the greatest comeback story ever told,” Biden said. “So let’s talk about it here and now. American revival means building a future of American potential, building an economy not from the top down but from the middle out and from the bottom up, all across America, all What’s behind it is investing in Americans and making sure everyone has a fair chance and no one is left behind.”
