President Biden reportedly lagged behind former President Trump in major policy comparisons, including a difference of more than 20 points in terms of which candidate would handle the economy better. NBC News’ new national poll.
Respondents said Trump was more capable and competent, leading Biden by 16 points in this area. Mr. Trump also led Mr. Biden by 23 points when it came to whether he had the necessary physical and mental health to be president.
The poll was conducted amid Biden’s approval rating of 37%, the lowest since taking office.
The survey showed that respondents lean toward Trump on a variety of policy contrasts, including immigration, crime, and violence control. When comparing which candidate was better at border security and immigration control, Trump led Biden by 35 points. Still, Biden held a 17-point lead on whether to treat immigrants humanely and protect their rights. Additionally, respondents said Trump, with a 21-point lead over Biden, would be better able to tackle crime and violence.
The poll also found that 60% of registered voters disapprove of Biden’s handling of the Israeli-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip. Just 36% of respondents approved of Biden’s handling of the economy, and 34% of respondents approved of his handling of foreign policy.
When asked who would better protect democracy, Biden narrowly beat Trump with a 2-point lead. Mr. Biden also beat Mr. Trump by 12 points on his response to abortion.
Mr. Biden took the lead on the poll’s final question, which asked respondents who they would vote for if Mr. Trump was convicted of a felony and convicted this year. In this case, 45% said they would vote for Biden, compared to 43% for Trump.
The poll was conducted from January 26th to 30th, with a total of 1,000 registered voters participating. The poll had a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
