On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour,” The New York Times Columnist David Brooks said President Joe Biden’s strategy to win the 2024 election is to “use fiscal stimulus to really jumpstart the election and win over working-class voters.”
Brooks said the panic over Biden’s debate performance was understandable, saying, “Today, looking back at the 2020 debates, Biden looked like a completely different person. So this loss is a big deal.” [with] Biden didn’t have a bad day like Obama did in 2012 when he lost to Mitt Romney. This is a fundamental resilience issue.”
He continued, “You need a strategy to win an election. Biden has tried a couple of strategies that I thought were plausible. The first plausible strategy was to use fiscal stimulus to really jumpstart the election and get working-class voters on his side. But that didn’t work. The second was, create a really positive economy so everyone prospers, inflation. And the third strategy was, because the State of the Union worked really well for Joe Biden, let’s have an exciting debate, and he’ll prove he’s vibrant and young enough to beat this guy. That’s the third failed strategy. So I don’t know if it’s time for me or anyone to call for him to resign, but I would like to see a strategy.”
