President Biden and former President Trump are tied in the latest national polling averages in a hypothetical three-way general election race that includes independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., according to The Hill/Decision Desk Headquarters (DDHQ). There is.
According to an average of 130 DDHQ polls in which respondents were asked about a hypothetical three-way showdown in the 2024 general election, Biden and Trump are tied for approval at 41.3%, with Kennedy trailing. It continues at 7.7%.
Trump has consistently led Biden in a hypothetical three-way race since Biden briefly overtook Trump with a 39.3% to 39.1% approval rating on Nov. 8. Mr. Trump maintained a statistically significant lead over Mr. Biden in December and January, but Mr. Biden began to gain an advantage over Mr. Trump early last month.
DDHQ’s Scott Tranter said, “Since President Biden gave his State of the Union address in early March, nationally he has narrowed the gap with former President Trump and is now tied for the first time since November 2023.” Ta.
Tranter said the close margin in the polls is “a harbinger of what to expect from intense campaigning and polling volatility as we approach the November election.”
Several polls added to DDHQ’s national polling average in recent days indicate a very close race. A recent Economist/YouGov poll showed Trump and Biden tied with 43% approval rating, while Kennedy was tied with 3% approval rating. A recent Quinnipiac University poll also showed Kennedy’s approval rating at 16%, tied at 37%.
Other recent polls have divided opinion. A Marist College poll shows Biden with a 5-point lead, and an Emerson College poll shows Trump with a 4-point lead.
The latest trends in national polling averages in a hypothetical three-way race are a sign for the Biden campaign, which is ramping up efforts to prevent Kennedy from sabotaging the president’s re-election bid amid concerns about the strength of independent candidates. This will be welcome news. Many Democrats fear that Kennedy’s bid could hurt Biden’s re-election chances more than President Trump’s.
Biden’s performance has similarly improved in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup between the two presidents. Last Wednesday, Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump were tied at 45.1 percent approval rating, according to the DDHQ polling average. Trump currently leads Biden by 0.3 points, which is within the margin of error in most polls.
