President Biden’s response to House Speaker Mike Johnson’s pushback against radical Supreme Court reforms left social media users perplexed Monday.
Writing in the Washington Post on Monday, Biden called on Congress to impose term limits and codes of conduct on the Supreme Court, as well as to create limits on presidential immunity.
Johnson reportedly said Biden’s proposal was “deadpan” in Congress. When asked about this, Biden referred the remarks back to Johnson.

“That’s who he is,” Biden said in a video posted by Washington Post reporter Matt Beiser.
The Growing Threat Behind Biden’s Supreme Court Proposal
Pressed for an explanation, Biden added that they were “dead on arrival.”
Biden repeated those comments in prepared remarks during an op-ed at the Johnson Presidential Library marking the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.
“The Republican Speaker of the House says anything he proposes would be a waste if it goes through,” Biden said. “No, I thought his ideas would be a waste if it went through!”
Biden’s comments were deemed odd and somewhat hypocritical by X users.
“‘Putting Trump at the Center of the Bullet’ has pivoted to the fake president saying Speaker Johnson was ‘dead on arrival,’ but J.D. Vance is weird. Or something,” said Fox News contributor Joe Concha.
“Imagine if Donald Trump said Kamala Harris was ‘dead on arrival’ and then said the same thing when pressed for an explanation? Jake Tapper would be breathing heavily right now,” Red State writer Bonchie wrote.
Conservative commentator Steve Guest said Biden appeared to be threatening the speaker.
“Our commander in chief just threatened to remove the Speaker of the House,” said Margot Cleveland, senior legal writer at The Federalist.
“Yes, this guy undoubtedly conceived and wrote today’s Washington Post op-ed,” joked National Review reporter Jeff Blehar.
“What does this mean?” asked Abigail Marrone, a spokeswoman for Sen. Josh Hawley.
“Only one of them will be in office next year, and it won’t be Biden,” Target Victory Vice President Matt Gorman said.

Johnson himself responded to X’s video, posting a clip of former President Trump during his debate with Biden.
“I have no idea what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said,” Trump said.
Biden’s proposals to “reform” the Supreme Court and limit presidential immunity have been seen as highly unfeasible plans in a deeply divided Congress.
