Biden’s inner circle silent as party reels following ’embarrassing’ debate performance

President Biden’s aides were nowhere to be seen after the incumbent Democrat gave an “embarrassing” and “disastrous” performance in Thursday’s presidential debate.

Immediately after the debate, Biden was widely panned by media figures and politicians for his “weak” voice, his “old” appearance and for “failing to convince” the American people that he had the strength and ability to serve in the White House for another four years.

Fox News Digital reached out to several Biden aides for their reaction to calls to replace him as the party’s presidential nominee, but none of them defended the president or responded to the debate.

The list of Biden aides who have not so far made public comments after the debate includes former White House chief of staff Ron Klain, who led preparations for the debate, his successor Jeff Zients, campaign manager Anita Dunn, national security adviser Jake Sullivan, presidential counselor Steven Richetti, and many others.

All were among at least 16 current and former aides who helped Biden prepare for the debate, which took place over the course of a week at Camp David in Maryland.

Leading Democratic candidates in tight races for the House and Senate across the country also remained silent about the debate, largely refraining from answering questions from Fox News Digital about calls for Biden to step down.

But Biden did receive some support from former President Barack Obama, who also admitted the debate was “bad.”

In X’s message, President Obama acknowledged that his former vice president failed to deliver strong results for the Democratic Party and the American people.

“There are plenty of bad debate nights. Believe me, I know. But this election is a choice between someone who has spent their whole life fighting for ordinary people and someone who only thinks about himself,” Obama wrote.

He continued to denounce former President Trump and defend Biden, writing, “We are faced with a battle between someone who will tell the truth, know right from wrong, and communicate honestly with the American people, and someone who will lie for his own gain. Last night’s events do not change that, and that is why so much is at stake in November.”
