CNN legal analyst Elliott Williams on Wednesday called President Biden's comments about detaining former President Trump “absolutely stupid.”

“First and foremost. What the president said was a very stupid statement. Here's why. This statement directly struck a central point that Donald Trump and those around him were making: , we have this overwhelming head of the Department of Justice in this country.'It's not like the president is going after his rivals, but that's not true,'' Williams said.

He added that “even if it was an accident, by just stating that, he fueled that nonsense,” which compared to what President Trump has said about his political opponents. , argued that it was somewhat unfair.

“I know it sounds weird. If you said this five years ago, it's like you're going to lock me up. We have to lock him up,” Biden said Tuesday at an event in New Hampshire. ” he said. But the president quickly added, “Lock him up politically. Lock him out. That's what we have to do.”
