Lindy Lee, a former major fundraiser for the Democrats, thinks President Joe Biden might be hurting his own cause by stating he’ll explain his reasons for running for re-election in 2024. This comes amid increasing worries regarding his age and mental sharpness.
She feels that Biden’s forthcoming memoir, titled “Promise Me, America,” is likely to reopen lingering wounds for the Democrats after their 2024 election defeat. In fact, she sees the book as a reflection of Biden’s presidency as a whole.
“People are thinking, ‘Why can’t this guy just stop talking?’ Before I left, he wasn’t exactly a welcome presence. When Biden departed the party on July 21st, it wasn’t even marked by a farewell party, just a staff gathering in the Rose Garden. Nothing special,” Lee remarked.
Lee humorously noted, “Instead of taking it easy in retirement, Jill is making him write books that not many are interested in.”
She suggested that Biden’s campaign has functioned almost like a requirement rather than a choice. “He probably should have stepped back years ago, but financial pressures seem to have kept him in the game,” she added.
Biden talked about his new book in a post on X recently. He claims it deals with national challenges and why he made certain decisions. This sparked a bit of mockery online, as people questioned the authenticity of his authorship.
“Joe Biden’s first lie about the book: ‘I wrote a book,’” one critic noted. Another added, “Biden couldn’t even sign his own pardon, and now he’s supposedly writing a book that the party pushed him into publishing post-midterms to avoid reminding everyone of his less favorable moments.”
Some figures within the political sphere chimed in as well. For instance, a Daily Wire editor asked, “Who do you think actually wrote this book?” while another Republican mocked the notion that an autopen was involved.
Lee, who is releasing her own book titled “Unburdened,” later this year, indicated that Biden’s shaky support within his own base was apparent long before he had to exit the 2024 race.
Lee expressed skepticism about how Biden could step down without further damaging his image, which his campaign has worked so hard to craft. Recounting an experience, she mentioned how Biden’s camp took her phone during a 2023 event because they feared her social media posts would portray him in a negative light.
“They took my phone because they knew I was active on Twitter. Later, I shared something on Instagram, and that same night, I got a call from the Democratic National Committee’s finance director asking me to delete all of it. They were concerned about how Biden appeared,” she said.
Now, she believes that the narrative surrounding Biden’s presidency and upcoming book will frustrate Democrats who are eager to move on from the 2024 election and may reignite discussions about why he wasn’t encouraged to resign earlier.
“It’s evident they aimed to hide the fact that instead of presenting a candidate they could be proud of, they were concealing someone they were embarrassed about,” she concluded.
