President Joe Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, explained why Dr. Kevin Canard, a neurologist who specializes in treating Parkinson’s disease, has visited the White House eight times in the past eight months.
O’Connor explanation The letter added that Cannard has served as a “neurology consultant” to the White House Medical Unit (WHMU) since 2012 and regularly hosts “neurology clinics at the White House Medical Clinic” to “support the thousands of active duty service members assigned to operational support of the White House.”
“Dr. Cannard has served as a neurology consultant at the White House Medical Unit since 2012. He was selected for his extensive experience and expertise across neurological specialties,” O’Connor wrote. “Prior to his movement disorders fellowship at Emory University, he practiced as a general neurologist for six years and is the longest serving neurologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Military Healthcare System.”

O’Connor added that Cannard has “received numerous local and national teaching awards and is highly regarded for his clinical skills,” adding that “these qualities make him a valuable and versatile consultant able to assess and treat a wide variety of conditions.”
“Both before and since the pandemic has subsided, he has conducted regular neurology clinics at the White House Medical Clinic to support the thousands of active duty military members who support the operation of the White House,” O’Connor’s letter added. “Many military members experience service-related neurological issues, and Dr. Cannard regularly visits the White House Medical Institute as part of his general neurology practice.”
O’Connor’s letter comes after the recent release of White House visitor records. Indicated Cannard will visit the White House eight times between July 2023 and March 2024.
Early Monday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced a series of heated press conferences as reporters questioned why Cannard had made multiple visits to the White House over the past few months.
Jean-Pierre did not reveal the names of the specialists who visited the White House, but acknowledged that Biden had seen a neurologist “three times” while in office.
“As I wrote in the President’s Medical Report, as part of the President’s annual physical examination, he is seen by a team of specialists including optometry, dentistry, orthopedics (foot and ankle), orthopedics (spine), physical therapy, neurology, sleep medicine, cardiology, radiology and dermatology,” O’Connor added. “Dr. Canard was the neurology expert I have seen at each of President Biden’s annual physicals. His findings have been made public each time I release the results of the President’s annual physicals. President Biden has not seen a neurologist outside of his annual physicals.”
O’Connor was recently asked to appear before the House Oversight Committee and participate in a “recorded interview” over concerns that a “medical evaluation” of the president may have been “influenced” as a result of her “personal business” relationships with the Biden family.
After Biden faced off against former President Donald Trump in the June 27 presidential debate, many Democrats, donors and voters have advocated for replacing Biden and questioned whether he can serve another term as president.
