President Biden’s State of the Union address was criticized by prominent political commentators for its political nature, with some likening it to more of a campaign speech than an overview of the country’s current situation.
“Directly attacking an opponent in the first few minutes of a speech is unprecedented and is perhaps the most partisan opening to a State of the Union address in modern memory,” said AEI Senior Fellow and former President George W. Biden criticized former President Donald Trump multiple times during his speech.

“As someone who has contributed to several SOTU writings and respects this important presidential institution, I am surprised by this speech,” Thiessen said in a separate post. “It’s an utter disgrace.”
