MSNBC anchor Nicole Wallace said Thursday during the station’s State of the Union coverage that President Joe Biden’s speech was “like a punch in the face to every single Republican in the room.” .
Wallace said: “This was his ‘How about an apple’ speech? We’ve seen this before. I think it was taking over the room. It started with a quote from Ronald Reagan that rooted the threat facing our country from my predecessor in those two epic battles. That was like a punch in the face to every Republican who was there. That’s how it started. That was the first 120 seconds.”
She continued, “He circulated a speech in it and then quoted President Reagan, and it was a punch in the nose. That’s how, ultimately, Lindsey Graham was like John McCain over there. That’s why they giggled as if it was a white flag in a way. I think the look on Mike Johnson’s face said it all. It’s going to be an attack and it’s going to be on FOX News by 11:15, but we all know this is a great speech and that this is the message for the next eight months. We all know that, but the polls will soon reflect that this is going to be a real fight.”
Wallace added, “I think ultimately bringing up his age three times showed not only Republicans but Democrats that he’s not afraid to protect himself.”
