The Big Ten announced Sunday that it has fined Michigan State and Ohio State $100,000 each for a postgame brawl after the Wolverines defeated the Buckeyes in a rivalry game.
After the game, a scuffle broke out as University of Michigan players tried to plant a flag in the middle of the field. Ohio State didn't take too kindly to the move, and a scuffle started from there. Police used pepper spray to break up some of the scuffles.
“The Big Ten Conference has determined that the actions of both teams following the Michigan vs. Ohio State football game on Saturday, November 30, 2024, violated the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy,” the conference said in a statement. Announced. “The actions of both teams not only violated fundamental elements of sportsmanship, such as respect and courtesy, but also jeopardized the safety of participants and bystanders due to the nature of the incident.
“As a result of these violations, the Big Ten Conference has fined both the University of Michigan and Ohio State University $100,000 each.
“The Big Ten Conference considers this matter closed and will have no further comment.”
