Bijan Robinson: More Than Just a Football Star
Bijan Robinson, the eighth overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2023 NFL Draft, has a story that extends beyond his impressive athleticism. After his time at the University of Texas at Austin, he rushed for over 1,400 yards last season, marking a significant breakout year. Yet, beyond his performance on the field, he is actively engaged in community service.
Robinson has teamed up with Auntie Anne’s to launch Knead & Read, a national initiative aimed at promoting literacy among children. This program allows students, with the help of parents or teachers, to set reading goals and track their progress using downloadable reading bookmarks. As an added incentive, children can enjoy a free pretzel once they reach their goals.
“It’s something we celebrate, and it’s a huge achievement for kids, teenagers, and families,” Robinson shared in a recent interview. “Everyone clearly loves Auntie Anne, so they can enjoy it too. You should see the kids’ faces; it’s incredible.” He emphasized that while football is his passion, collaborating with Auntie Anne’s is about making a difference beyond just his athletic career. “It’s really bigger than football,” he said. “It’s essential to connect with the community and see how we can impact lives.”
On the field, Robinson’s contributions could help the Falcons push for their first playoff appearance since 2017. Currently, the team holds a 2-2 record, reflecting a mix of highs and lows in their season. Their journey has included a narrow loss in week one followed by a disappointing defeat against the Carolina Panthers but they managed to rebound with a victory over the Washington Commanders.
Robinson was aware that last season’s near playoff bid, which ended with an 8-9 record, was a stepping stone. Now, he aims to bring the Falcons back to their competitive roots, hoping to bring joy to fans in the community who crave success from their team.
“We keep playing hard; every week is crucial for us,” Robinson noted. “It’s all about focusing on the present and giving our best effort every game.”
