New Coffee Shop with a Twist in Los Angeles
Tanlines Coffee, a bikini barista coffee shop located in bustling Los Angeles, has been making waves—largely due to its eye-catching staff attire.
Interestingly, the workers have shared their experiences, revealing some of the more surprising challenges they face when serving customers in such a setting.
While many patrons are just stopping by for a quick pick-me-up and some friendly conversation, the baristas have to navigate a few quirky encounters. One barista noted, “For every 100 great customers, there’s one oddball,” in a TikTok interview, which reflects a bit of the job’s reality in such a unique environment.
The baristas mentioned that identifying “weird” customers is usually straightforward, particularly those who are overly eager to capture the moment—sometimes in less than discreet ways.
“If you ask them to take off their glasses, they’re often taken aback and ask, ‘Why not?’” one barista explained. These individuals typically try to record every angle of their encounter.
Reactions to the shop have been mixed. A Reddit user who visited a similar concept remarked it was “what you’d expect—a Starbucks with baristas in bikinis,” but another chimed in, saying the coffee was surprisingly “really good.”
Despite the occasional odd interaction, employees seem to appreciate the lighter atmosphere compared to more traditional work settings. “I spent a lot of time trying to fit into the corporate scene. Now, I’m just in my bikini, having a blast with my coworkers,” one barista laughed as she prepared an espresso.
The shop, open since January 12, also includes cozy seating areas where customers can enjoy pastries and chat. The baristas even joked about their giant cinnamon rolls being “worthy of a Michelin star.”
When asked if dealing with unusual customers is worth it for the perks of the job, the baristas readily agreed, “Yes, that’s a good tip!”
