Clintons Ordered to Testify in Epstein Investigation
In a recent development, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has mandated that Bill and Hillary Clinton appear in court for depositions next month as part of an ongoing investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile.
Back on August 5, subpoenas were issued to the former presidential couple, requesting details about their connections with Epstein. However, Clinton’s legal team responded on November 3, suggesting that they only needed to “provide in writing the little information” they possessed.
Comer remarked that the Clintons’ position is important given their potential insights that relate to the committee’s interests. He emphasized the need for in-person testimony, countering the suggestion that such testimonies were irrelevant to the investigation’s legislative goals.
“Your suggestion that your client’s testimony is irrelevant to the purpose of the committee’s investigation… misses the point,” Comer stated, highlighting that the Clintons’ relationships with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were significant even outside their official duties.
Bill Clinton is scheduled for a deposition at 10 a.m. on December 17, while Hillary Clinton’s deposition will take place the following day at the same time.
David Kendall, an attorney for Bill Clinton, previously labeled the actions of Epstein and Maxwell as “abhorrent” while also acknowledging the public’s demand for transparency regarding criminal activities. He noted that the Clintons support thorough oversight, stating, “They welcome due, fact-based oversight of this issue.”
Kendall further asserted that the Clintons have not contributed much to the inquiry, suggesting that any relevant information could be submitted in writing.
Other individuals who were subpoenaed in August but claimed to possess “no information” related to the Epstein investigation were permitted to bypass depositions by submitting written statements. This includes former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Alberto Gonzales, and former FBI Director Robert Mueller, who is dealing with Parkinson’s disease.
Kendall has not yet issued a response to requests for comment following these developments.
