Bill Clinton defends Biden in debate aftermath: ‘Facts and history matter’

Former President Bill Clinton commented on President Biden’s debate performance, saying, “Facts and history matter.”

“I’ll leave it to the experts to evaluate the debate, but what I do know is that facts and history matter. Joe Biden has given us three years of solid leadership that has brought stability in the post-pandemic era, created a record number of new jobs, made real progress solving the climate crisis, successfully fought inflation, and pulled us out of the quagmire left by Donald Trump.” Clinton posted on social media platform X. “That’s what really matters in November.”

Biden’s shaky debate performance created fear and panic among Democrats.

Some have called for Biden to step down and have someone else run against former President Trump — a call the White House and Biden’s campaign have blasted, signaling the incumbent president is prepared for a long fight.

The president tried to calm panic while campaigning in North Carolina on Friday. While in Raleigh, he said he was a politician who knew how to “get back up” after being “knocked down.”

Clinton was the latest prominent Democrat to defend Biden in the aftermath of Thursday’s debate.

Vice President Kamala Harris defended Biden’s performance in an interview with CNN immediately after the debate, acknowledging that the president “started slow” but “finished strong.”

Former President Barack Obama defended his former vice president, urging voters to choose Biden this fall despite his struggles in the debates.

“There will be bad debate nights, believe me, I know,” Obama posted on X. “But this election is a choice between someone who has spent their whole life fighting for ordinary people and someone who only thinks about themselves.”

Clinton’s wife, former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, also endorsed Biden after the debate, saying the choice she made during the debate was “very simple” and that she plans to vote for Biden in the fall.
