Bill Gates Claims Elon Musk Is Hurting Underprivileged Kids and Commits to Donating $200 Billion by 2045

Bill Gates Criticizes Elon Musk Over Health Funding Cuts

Bill Gates has publicly accused Elon Musk of negatively impacting global health through significant funding cuts. Gates is planning to allocate 99% of his wealth to his foundation by 2045, while also announcing that the foundation will cease operations by the end of that year.

His comments followed Musk’s announcement regarding cuts in the funding from the US International Development Agency, which manages foreign aid. Gates expressed concerns over the potential resurgence of diseases like measles, polio, and HIV as a consequence of these cuts.

“The portrayal of the richest man in the world harming the poorest children isn’t exactly reassuring,” Gates remarked during an interview. He further invited Musk to meet children suffering from HIV to understand the impact of such decisions.

In the same interview, the 69-year-old founder of Microsoft revealed his commitment to giving away his wealth through his nonprofit over the next two decades. He emphasized this initiative in a recent blog post, stating that the foundation would officially close its doors by December 31, 2045.

“When I pass away, I wish for my legacy not to reflect that ‘he died rich,'” Gates noted in his blog. “There are urgent problems to tackle that need resources for solutions, which is why I decided to speed up my contributions.”

Gates mentioned that his foundation has already disbursed over $100 billion and plans to spend an additional $200 billion in the coming 20 years. He outlined key objectives for the foundation, including eliminating preventable diseases that affect mothers and children and combating infectious diseases like malaria and measles, along with alleviating poverty for millions.

According to Bloomberg’s Billionaire index, Gates has a personal fortune of $168 billion. He reiterated the foundation’s commitment to ensuring that birthplace should not dictate opportunity, looking forward to a future where everyone can live healthy and productive lives.
