Bill Maher Acknowledges Trump’s Success on Podcast

Comedian Bill Maher shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s accomplishments during a recent podcast episode, emphasizing that while he doesn’t personally support Trump, he cannot overlook the achievements. During a conversation with actor William H. Macy on the “Club Random” podcast, Maher stated, “You can never deny success. Even if it’s not your own, it demands respect. It takes humility to acknowledge significant success, regardless of the source. I didn’t vote for Trump, but I can’t ignore his success.”

Macy concurred, remarking, “Neither can I. And he is the president.” Maher also reflected on Trump’s past insults toward him, noting a signed paper displayed in his studio that listed these remarks, which Trump had signed during Maher’s visit to the White House.

“It’s impressive,” Macy said regarding the signed document. Maher, amused, commented on Trump’s ability to recall numerous insults, saying, “He could come up with 56 different things off the top of his head.” Maher expressed a sort of admiration for Trump’s straightforwardness, adding that he found it refreshing compared to typical political interactions.

Maher met with Trump in April, a decision that drew criticism from some liberals. He described the president as “polite and thoughtful,” suggesting that the public persona often portrayed on screen does not reflect who Trump is in private. “I never felt the need to walk on eggshells around him,” Maher shared. Despite having supported Democrat candidates in the past, he indicated a sense of ease in discussions with Trump, posing a question about the Democratic Party’s current unpopularity.

In previous discussions, Maher has often criticized Trump, yet he has also acknowledged Trump’s effectiveness as a politician, attributing it to an authenticity that resonates with the public. “Trump is really one of the most effective politicians,” Maher said. He argued that politicians who embrace their true selves tend to connect better with the electorate, as people can sense insincerity from a distance.
