Bill Maher Grills Dr. Phil on ICE Raids

On Friday’s episode of “Real-Time,” host Bill Maher put guest Dr. Phil in an uncomfortable position regarding the Trump administration’s ICE raids.

“Why are you participating in these ICE raids?” Maher questioned. “It’s just puzzling to me.”

He continued, “You’ve been advocating for family unity and healing for years. So, how can you now be involved in actions that literally tear families apart?”

Dr. Phil, not backing down, responded with a sharp comeback. “Well, it’s a complex situation,” he said.

He added, “If law enforcement arrests someone who is a citizen, or if a parent is in trouble, do you think their family won’t be separated? Of course, they will!”

Maher countered, “But that’s not what’s happening here.”

As the conversation evolved, Maher brought up President Trump’s declining popularity associated with these raids.

Dr. Phil took a moment to address one of Maher’s critiques about masked ICE agents. He claimed that this precaution was a response to lawmakers “doxxing” the officers.

“Legislators have put their names, photos, and families out there for everyone to see,” he noted.

Dr. Phil justified his involvement in the raids by referring to specific cases he had reviewed. “These individuals are repeat offenders when it comes to crimes against children,” he said. “It’s crucial to keep them off the streets.”

Later in the discussion, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, who also joined the conversation, shared his alignment with Dr. Phil on the need for stricter border control. However, he emphasized that the administration’s approach did not match their public statements.

Sparking further discussion, he pointed out, “When you show up at places like Home Depot, or even at people’s workplaces or churches, the reality of who they target is different from what was initially portrayed.” Maher echoed this sentiment, adding that ICE operates in places where many immigrants already work.

“If someone feels they can’t go to work because they are hiding, what does that imply?” Maher questioned. “Are they committing crimes? This is something I’ve witnessed firsthand during my own experiences accompanying ICE.”
