Bill Maher Responds to Jimmy Kimmel’s Comments
On Friday, HBO’s Bill Maher expressed his disagreement with Jimmy Kimmel’s claim regarding the alleged assailant of Charlie Kirk, labeling Kimmel’s assertion that the suspect was a MAGA Republican as “incorrect.” However, Maher did criticize ABC for airing Kimmel’s remarks.
“I just don’t think what he said is accurate,” Maher stated during the latest episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher.” He emphasized, “We clearly don’t see eye to eye on this one.”
Despite his disagreement, Maher believed that Kimmel shouldn’t face job loss over his comments. “I think he should keep his position,” he said, suggesting that the consequences didn’t fit the offense.
While referring to Kimmel’s previous network moments, Maher humorously noted that his own show had faced similar scrutiny over controversial remarks—pointing to Kimmel’s controversial comments about 9/11 Hijackers.
In jest, he mentioned, “Cancellations were canceled before there was even a culture of it!” making light of ABC’s decision-making process.
Kimmel’s late-night show had aired just days earlier, following his remarks related to the violent incident involving Kirk. He had boldly stated that those trying to distance the assailant’s actions from their own political group were hitting “new lows.”
An ABC representative indicated that Kimmel’s show would be on hold for an indefinite period due to these ongoing issues.
This statement from Maher followed support from other late-night hosts for Kimmel. CBS’s Stephen Colbert, during his own show, declared, “We’re all Jimmy Kimmel,” condemning what he termed as blatant censorship in response to the tensions surrounding Kimmel’s remarks.
On NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon reflected on the situation with humor, saying, “Looks like I’m getting all these texts because of Kimmel.” He described Kimmel as “a decent, loving, funny guy” and expressed hopes for his return.
