Bill Maher criticizes NYC House candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier as the 'patient zero' of the 'woke mind virus'

Maher Calls Out Woke Extremism in Politics

In a recent episode of HBO’s “Real Time,” comedian Bill Maher pointed to a New York City Council candidate, Daria Lisa Avila Chevalier, as a prime example of what he calls “Patient Zero” of the extreme woke movement.

Maher criticized her positions, including proposals to abolish prisons, borders, and the police. He expressed concern that her radical views could sway mainstream Democrats in the future.

“There’s one candidate who’s going to represent New York’s 13th District. The New York Times asked her if people who randomly kill should face jail time, and she wouldn’t say yes,” Maher remarked.

He added, “She insists there will never be police again. She labels our veterans as war criminals. Not to mention her accusations against Kamala Harris and Joe Biden.” Maher firmly stated, “I believe there is a kind of awakened mind virus, and we’ve found our patient zero.”

Avila Chevalier recently won a Democratic primary against Adriano Espaira, the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, with support from New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani.

Before her victory, she notably erased some of her more controversial social media posts, where she praised communism and controversially mentioned wiping her hands on an American flag due to not having a napkin.

During his conversation with Republican Vice President J.D. Vance on the show, Maher discussed his growing concerns about the far-left shift within the Democratic Party. “If the party is going in a direction obsessed with Israel and harboring anti-Semitic sentiments, rejecting capitalism and prisons, then I have to reconsider my vote,” he said.

Although Maher has traditionally aligned with Democratic values, he voiced his frustration with the rise of woke and socialist ideals. However, he noted that he finds Trump’s denial of fair U.S. elections to be a significant issue for him.

As of now, Avila Chevalier’s campaign has not responded to requests for comments.
