“Real Time” host Bill Maher has reversed his stance on the New York trial of former President Trump, predicting that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will become a “rising star” in Democratic politics if he is convicted.
“I have to say that I was always against this. [it] This is not the most serious, considering everything you brought. …Now I think Trump could lose,” Maher began Friday night’s panel discussion.
“I’m turning this on because it wasn’t what I was expecting, and this David Pecker, I mean, Pecker, beat this guy,” Maher joked. .

Pecker, a former publisher of the National Enquirer, was the first witness to take the stand at Trump’s trial last week, and was the first to take the stand during Trump’s presidential bid to bury a story about extramarital affairs against him. “By the way, if things continue like this and Trump loses, it’s going to change the whole election,” Maher said later. “Many independents, quite a few members of Congress, and Republicans say the vote would change if he was a convicted felon. And he would look like a loser, if he Not that it hasn’t already happened, but you know what.”

Last year, as Mr. Bragg was preparing the first indictment against Mr. Trump, Mr. Ma predicted this would be a “grave mistake” that would benefit Mr. Trump’s 2024 presidential bid.
“I want to go on record to say that if they bring charges like this, I think this is a huge mistake. You know, this is not what this is,” Maher said at the time. “I mean, yes, he’s done a lot of bad things, and I’m sure he did this – all the things they accused him of. [doing], he did it. But first of all, it doesn’t work. That will provide fuel for his 2024 campaign. And that just looks at MAGA countries like, “Oh, you tried it with Mueller, you tried it with Ukraine, you tried it with January 6th.” Are you going to be a porn star this time? Really? Are you doing that much? ”
