Liberal HBO host Bill Maher said Sunday that a significant number of black Americans are not as liberal as most people think.
“My view is that there is a large silent majority of black people who are not as liberal as white people. [Democrats]” he said on the podcast.Club Random“
Maher told guest comedian Larry Wilmore that he personally knows black men who are disaffected by the far left.

Wilmore, a former “Daily Show” correspondent and late-night Comedy Central host who is Black, said Maher’s views are “1,000 percent true,” especially among multigenerational black families and older black Americans.
The two discussed how political allegiances have changed over time, and how black voters began to lean more toward the Democratic Party during the Civil Rights Movement, which Wilmore said the left “hijacked” and saw as a “human” rather than a political movement.
During the podcast, Maher and Wilmore repeatedly discussed issues of race.
At one point, Maher President Biden’s controversial graduation speech Biden has been criticized for a “racist” speech he gave to Morehouse College in May, a historically black college, in which he asked graduating students, “What is a democracy if you have to be 10 times better than others to have a fair chance?”

Larry Wilmore discussed racial issues with Bill Maher on his podcast, Club Random.
Maher said he didn’t like Biden’s speech and thought it was rather outdated.
“That’s condescending,” said Wilmore, who contrasted Biden’s comments with his more positive outlook on black Americans.
“I don’t live in a world of despair, I live in a world of ambition, because I know despair exists,” Wilmore continued. “I talk about them, I joke about them, but I always have the perspective that if you want to build something, you don’t just put band-aids on things in your life, you want to build something in your life, and you want to build something by inspiration.”
“That’s a healthier attitude for everybody,” Maher said.
Maher clashed with popular Black radio host Charlaman Tha God on Friday over Biden’s comments.
