Bill Maher supports Trump's Pearl Harbor comment to the Japanese prime minister

Bill Maher Responds to Trump’s Controversial Joke

On his show, Bill Maher shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s controversial remark about Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Maher found the joke amusing but acknowledged it was not exactly appropriate. He quoted Trump, who had, in connection to a discussion about a military strike in Iran, said, “No one knows more about surprise attacks than the Japanese,” remarking that if it had been said by comedian Shane Gillis, it would have garnered laughs.

During a recent meeting with Takaichi at the White House, Trump faced a question from a reporter about why allies weren’t informed about the Iran strike. In his response, the president referenced Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, which escalated the U.S. involvement in World War II, to justify his actions while sitting next to Takaichi.

Maher didn’t shy away from critiquing Trump’s approach to the situation with Iran, pointing out the negative impact it has had on the stock market and gas prices, and how federal spending demands have increased. He remarked that the Pentagon claimed it needs an extra $200 billion for the war, questioning where the annual $1 trillion allocation has gone.

Interestingly, Maher also joked about Trump’s intentions around U.S. currency, particularly a proposal to feature his image on a commemorative dollar coin. He noted that current federal law prohibits living presidents from being depicted on currency, calling it a non-controversial rule. However, Maher humorously suggested that Trump found a loophole in this regulation.

Reflecting on the sharp rise in gas prices from around $2.93 to nearly $3.93 in just a month, Maher highlighted the irony in Trump’s previous statements about economic management. As he wrapped up this segment, his comments intertwined humor with serious political critique, leaving viewers with something to ponder.
