Bill Maher takes aim at ‘soft and woke’ Democrats for undermining American patriotism

Bill Maher Critiques Young Democrats

Bill Maher, the HBO host, has directed his criticism towards young Democrats, suggesting they support anti-Israel sentiments and express sympathy for Hamas. During an episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he stated, “Liberals are weak and awakened, particularly white individuals,” adding that they indulge their children in various misguided beliefs.

He advised parents to have conversations with their kids, reminding them that idolizing Hamas isn’t a desirable choice. Maher has been vocal about what he sees as misguided admiration for extremist groups, featuring Rep. Mike Lawler and Democratic strategist Donna Brazil on his panel to discuss these issues.

Concerns About Democratic Youth

Lawler referenced Maher’s comments as impactful, while some on the left suggested he needed to change his stance. “America represents hope and freedom,” he remarked, expressing discontent over the embrace of poor actors on the global stage who don’t uphold freedom of expression.

Maher’s remarks come during a rising number of anti-Israel protests at universities. Notably, protests at Columbia University in early May led to dozens of arrests after activists occupied a library, with at least 80 detained, many of whom were women.

“This creates a dilemma for Democrats,” Maher said, asserting that their younger supporters show disdain for their own civilization and hold a misguided view of groups like Hamas. He warned that such attitudes could damage the party’s reputation and sense of patriotism.

Maher noted that he has increasingly criticized his political allies, blaming what he refers to as “woke culture.” He made a reference to Democrat Elissa Slotkin, who recently echoed similar sentiments, using the phrase “weak and awakened” during a speech.

Warning Signs for Democrats

He cautioned that if Democratic leaders continue to endorse views that praise groups like Hamas, the party’s future might be in jeopardy. Maher also pointed out a rally that was taking place, featuring Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders, which received applause from attendees.

Maher expressed disappointment that no one at the rally corrected the young supporters who draped a “free Palestine” flag over the American flag, emphasizing that this was not a symbol of freedom.

Lawler argued that the radical activism on the far left alienated potential voters, contributing to Republican gains in Washington. He lamented that there seemed to be a lack of condemnation for actions he deemed supportive of terrorism, raising concerns about the broader implications.
