Bill Maher targets LGBTQ singer Chappell Roan over Gaza comments

Bill Maher criticized LGBTQ singer Chapel Lawn for comments he made about Gaza in a TikTok video on Friday night's show “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

He referred to her previous comments that “it's important to use critical thinking” when it comes to the Israel-Hamas war. Roan also mentioned the importance of questioning yourself and your company's “algorithms.”

“There's a history of the Middle East that you and your fans haven't heard about,” Maher said after playing Roan's video.

Maher has made several political comments in recent weeks, including criticizing former President Trump's FEMA claims. This week, he criticized Roan's comments as a popular young musician and member of Generation Z, an important bloc of voters.

“I didn't learn anything about the Middle East from TikTok. TikTok is a Chinese company whose totalitarian government just wants American youth to hate America,” Maher said of the loan. I mentioned it in the comments. “That's part of the algorithm you say you want to look into. First of all, it's not your fault that you don't know much about history.

“You live in America, and schools stopped teaching facts a while ago. But getting all your history from TikTok is like getting all your calories from Hostess. ,” Maher said. “I know you are moved by what you saw there. We are all dead Palestinians.”

He continued his comments against the “Pink Pony Club” singer by citing Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

“But it's strange that your generation seemed so unmoved by the bodies of Jews on October 7th. They killed people at Coachella this year, but Hamas killed people at a music festival. It's a whole different thing to kill someone,” Maher added.

He then spoke about the history of Jews in the Middle East, pushing back against claims that they were “colonists”.

“My guess is that Gen Z is hardened by the propaganda they see on TikTok that likes to refer to Jews as colonizers,” Maher said. “But the colonists are interlopers with no history in the area, like when Spain conquered the Maya or when your mom took over Facebook.”

Maher concluded by warning of the dangers Roan would face as a member of the LGBTQ community in a country that does not promote the First Amendment.

“Chappell, if you think growing up gay in the Midwest was oppressive, try the Middle East,” he said.
