Bill O'Reilly: Trump should be 'looking to reassure Americans' on economy

Former Fox News host Bill O'Reilly says that President Trump should be concerned about delivering his economic message as Americans face the rocky effects of his tariff policy and the ongoing inflation.

“I think he should certainly be interested in the fear factor, and he should be trying to reassure Americans,” O'Reilly said. News Nation's “Balance” Monday night. “The problem the White House has right now is they're just rising, and the explanations are sometimes vague, and Donald Trump is taking it all into his own hands.”

He added that if he was in Trump's position, he would “throw a gentle… trustworthy economist” to alleviate his fear of uncertainty.

“You need to calm everything down and then you have to explain,” the conservative commentator said.

In an interview with Fox News Sunday morning futures, Trump refused to rule out the possibility of a recession, spurring uncertainty in Wall Street and Capitol halls.

O'Reilly said he doesn't believe most Americans are “economically hurting” at this point.

“The prices are too high, but they'll be off,” he told host Leland Vittert. “Do Americans have to decide for themselves whether they want to live in a state of panic?

A new Emerson University poll released Tuesday found that 47% of voters approved Trump's duties for nearly two months, with 45% disapproving. His approval took a small slide since he took office in January, according to analysts in the poll.

Almost half of respondents in the latest survey said they did not approve of the president's handling of the economy, with 37% saying they disagreed.
