Billie Eilish has emerged in public for the first time since her comments about “stolen land” during the Grammy Awards, which drew significant criticism.
The 24-year-old was seen strolling with her dog through a neighborhood in Los Angeles on Wednesday, dressed in her characteristic baggy attire.
In the photos, she appeared cheerful and at ease, even stopping at one point to lean down and kiss her dog.
Since her statement—”No one is an illegal alien in stolen land”—made during her acceptance speech for Song of the Year, Eilish has largely stayed out of the spotlight.
In addition to her remarks, she added, “Fk ICE,” while on stage with O’Connell. Her estate has faced backlash, including calls from some for her to return her multimillion-dollar Los Angeles home to Native American groups.
Criticism of Eilish’s remarks has been widespread. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remarked on X, suggesting she should be evicted from her mansion if she truly believed her statements. Similarly, Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) claimed that anyone who acknowledges “stolen land” should cede their own land to Native Americans to prove their sincerity.
The Tongva tribe, who originally inhabited the area where Eilish’s home is located, mentioned they had not heard of her but appreciated public figures discussing the true history of the country.
As of now, Eilish has not made any further statements.
