Bill Ackman Raises Funds for ICE Officer Involved in Shooting
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman shared that he contributed to a fundraising effort for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer who fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday. He also mentioned attempting to provide support to the victim’s family.
Ackman donated $10,000 to a GoFundMe campaign for Jonathan Ross, the ICE officer involved in the incident with Renee Good, who allegedly “weaponized her car” against immigration agents. This information was highlighted in a report on Sunday.
In a post on social media, Ackman stated, “I am a strong believer in the legal principle of innocent until proven guilty. That’s why I supported GoFundMe. I intended to contribute for Jonathan Ross and assist in establishing an endowment for Renee Good’s family as well, but that option was closed when I sought to provide support.”
He remarked on the tragedy of the situation, describing it as “a police officer doing his job and a protester whose actions, possibly unintended, resulted in a loss of life. We strengthen our nation by working together to address the complex issues that separate us.”
The fundraising efforts for Ross indicate a $10,000 donation from Ackman, and by Monday morning, the campaign had raised over $390,000.
Reports indicate that a group attempted to obstruct the agents during the initial shooting.
Following the incident, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security commented that “one of the violent rioters used his car as a weapon and attempted to kill the officer. This was classified as an act of domestic terrorism.” The agency further explained that the officer acted out of fear for his life, highlighting the severity of the event.
They also noted this as a result of ongoing attacks against police by sanctuary politicians, citing increases in assaults on law enforcement and threats against officers.
Various video recordings from multiple perspectives illustrate the events that transpired.
According to NBC News, Ross has extensive experience in government service, having served in the military and later as a Border Patrol agent before joining ICE as a deportation officer in Minnesota. His roles included identifying and arresting significant targets, furthering the agency’s efforts in community safety during President Donald Trump’s administration.
