Bills WAG shares heartfelt message following Sean McDermott's dismissal

Emotional Reaction to McDermott’s Departure

Hilary Trubisky, the wife of Bills backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky, expressed deep feelings about Buffalo’s decision to release head coach Sean McDermott, following the team’s 33-30 overtime loss to Denver in the divisional round. This news broke on a Monday, just two days post-game.

In an Instagram Story shared on Tuesday, Hilary reflected on the strong bond formed between McDermott, his wife Jamie, and Mitch after he joined the Bills with a two-year contract back in March 2024.

“Buffalo will always feel like home because of Jamie and Sean,” she wrote, alongside McDermott’s farewell announcement. “I’m so grateful to both of you and everything you’ve done for our family on and off the field. We’re so lucky wherever we go next.”

She went on to share some personal moments: “I love you [Jamie]. Night dog walks with the kids, carpools, and selling slime will always hold a special place in my heart. You are truly a unique human being, and I am so lucky that our paths crossed.” The warmth in her words really stands out.

Reports indicate McDermott’s firing followed five weeks of discussions with general manager Brandon Beane and owner Terry Pegula concerning roster issues. Allegedly, Beane and Pegula weren’t pleased after McDermott highlighted what was missing from the roster to secure a Super Bowl win.

Curiously, it seems McDermott himself had doubts about the team’s talent level, which some found perplexing. Pegula later remarked that the Bills needed a “new structure within leadership” to elevate the team.

McDermott’s tenure, lasting nine seasons, concluded without a Super Bowl appearance. He left with a regular-season record of 98-50 and an 8-8 postseason record, which included two AFC Championship game losses to the Kansas City Chiefs under Patrick Mahomes.

Saturday’s heartbreaking loss to the Broncos was the Bills’ fourth defeat in the last five years during the regional round. In his farewell message, McDermott referred to coaching the Bills as a “gift,” thanking the Pegula family, the organization, and the fan base. His words conveyed real gratitude, saying, “I always wanted our team to be true to Buffalo and play with the same level of toughness and grit that you all show every day.” It’s touching how much he appreciates the community.

Meanwhile, Beane has been elevated to president of football operations and will lead the hunt for the next head coach. Outside of Buffalo, teams like Arizona, Baltimore, Cleveland, Las Vegas, and Pittsburgh are also looking for coaching candidates.
