Billy Horschel saves golf fans from alligator at Cognizant Classic

Chubbs approves.

World's No. 20th player, Billy Horschel, took matters into his hands by chasing invading crocodiles into the water in a wild scene in Cognizant Classic on Thursday.

After attending the University of Florida, the gator, Horseshell, ironically, ironically plunged the invading animal with a 60-degree wedge, retreating the alligator.

“I'm not afraid of gators. They're more afraid of you, as I say to people,” Horchel said. “They're going to come after you during mating season where they're a bit offensive, and if you're around their nest when they get some eggs. Most of the time, listen, they're fine.”

Some – perhaps many people were scared to see alligators roaming near them on the golf course, but Horschel, from Florida, had no such concern.

He noticed a crocodile while preparing to walk to the seventh hall at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and a police officer walking with him attempted to leave the animal.

However, to support his efforts, the officers had nothing to him.

“As (Cameron Young) said, before I went there, “What is he trying to do? Do you use his taser?” Hoschel joked. “But I think he has to get it a little closer to try and make it effective.”

Horschel took the trouble in his own hands and realized that someone had to walk to the eighth hole to grab the rake, or that he was able to do it himself as the gator “goes nowhere.”

He took the wedge, fine-tuned the crocodile to the right, meandering across the course, the crocodile spinning 90 degrees and began running towards the water.

Afterwards, Hosekell chased the green animal, returned to the water and applauded people from nearby people.

The 38-year-old joked that he had grabbed one of his 60-degree wedges, thankfully, as he has two extras.

Horschel shot 5 under on the first day of the event.

“I've never touched the tail with my hand, but I've done it at the club,” Horschel said. “It's not that big of a deal.”
