Birthright citizenship is misusing our laws

Debate on Birthright Citizenship

During a segment on FNC’s “Hornity” Thursday, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) highlighted the topic of oral arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court concerning birthright citizenship. Cruz addressed what he referred to as the misuse of U.S. law regarding the so-called anchor baby issue, asserting his commitment to its abolition.

Host Sean Hannity posed a question, saying, “Senator, let me make sure I understand. Birthright citizenship—if someone is illegally in the country and has a baby, what do you think about that? Is it justified? What’s the crux of this argument?”

Cruz responded, “That’s really the heart of the issue, and I believe birthright citizenship is a flawed policy. If an undocumented foreign national gives birth here, that child automatically gains U.S. citizenship, which is the current law, even prior to Trump’s executive order. This situation creates a considerable incentive for illegal immigration. We see individuals crossing the southern border, and even foreigners from countries like China come here specifically to give birth, taking advantage of U.S. laws.”

He continued, “For a long time, I have advocated for the elimination of citizenship at birth. I’ve actually introduced legislation in the Senate aimed at ending birthright citizenship, which aligns with what President Trump is attempting to achieve.”
