Biscuitville Tops Fast-Food Breakfast Rankings Again

For the fourth consecutive year, Biscuitville has been recognized as the best fast-food breakfast in America, outpacing national rivals, even though it operates primarily in just three states.

The Southern chain secured the top position in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, surpassing big names like McDonald’s (ranked No. 4), Chick-fil-A (No. 5), Burger King (No. 6), and Wendy’s (No. 7).

Kristie Mitchell, Biscuitville’s chief marketing officer, shared that the accolade is especially significant due to the fierce competition within the fast-food breakfast sector. “We have earned it, but we don’t want to live in a space where we come to expect it,” she noted.

Biscuitville has recently opened its 90th location and currently serves customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Looking ahead, Mitchell mentioned they hope to eventually branch out into Tennessee and Georgia, although the family-owned business plans to concentrate on growth within its existing markets for the next few years.

The restaurant’s unique selling point is its scratch-made biscuits, baked fresh every 15 minutes using a family recipe that was handed down to the founder by his grandmother. However, Mitchell emphasized that Biscuitville’s charm goes beyond just their biscuits.

“We have no microwaves,” she stressed. “There’s no instant anything in our kitchens.”

All eggs are hand-cracked, and everything served is made fresh, which requires advanced planning and more effort—especially since customers expect the quick service typical of fast-food drive-thrus. Nonetheless, Mitchell believes this method touches on something deeper than just convenience.

“We often get comments from our feedback line saying, ‘Your biscuit tastes just like my grandmother’s biscuit,'” she shared.

Celebrity chef Jason Smith, known for being a contestant on the upcoming season of “The Floor,” also recognizes Biscuitville’s place among the top breakfast spots in the nation. Though he notes it ranks high on his list, he admits it’s not quite at the top, primarily due to one ingredient: butter. “That’s what makes the best Southern biscuits,” he remarked.

Despite Smith favoring Tudor’s Biscuit World, a regional chain found in states like West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio, he praised Biscuitville’s offerings, particularly highlighting their Tender and “super soft” biscuits, especially the Ultimate Country Ham Biscuit.

For Mitchell, the lasting appeal of Southern breakfast staples like biscuits, grits, and eggs is rooted in an experience that resonates widely—even with those who might not have grown up enjoying them. “I think it’s bigger than just the biscuit,” she reflected. “Yes, we are Biscuitville, but it’s larger than that. It’s all the things that go between that biscuit.”

The fact that Biscuitville has maintained this status for four years now suggests that many Americans share this sentiment.
