Black GOP Candidate Criticizes White Liberal's Racist Protest Sign from the 'Tolerant Left'

Virginia Gov. Wyn Earl Sears Condemns Racist Signs

Virginia’s Republican Governor, Wyn Earl Sears, has strongly criticized the racially charged signs targeting her, which were seized by advocates of transgender ideology in a recent advertisement released on Friday morning.

Sears’ advertisement also highlights comments made by former Virginia Representative Abigail Spanberger, who is running in the 2025 gubernatorial race. This ad features a particularly provocative sign stating, “If Trans can’t share your bathroom, Blacks can’t share my water fountains.” A white protester was photographed holding this sign during a recent demonstration against a speech delivered by a Black GOP gubernatorial candidate. This speech discussed gender ideology policies at a meeting of the Arlington County Public School Board.

In a tweet, Sears expressed her frustration, stating, “I’m tired of it, but it’s not surprising. This is the ‘tolerant’ left that Abigail Spanberger defends.” She further called attention to the sign’s presence on social media, emphasizing, “There is no place for this vile hatred in our Federation. Anyone who looks the other way on this sign is complicit.”

Arlington Public Schools is among those maintaining gender identity policies, despite findings from the Trump administration suggesting these policies infringe on civil rights. While Spanberger has not taken a direct stance on this issue, a spokesperson did address the signs, highlighting that Spanberger publicly denounces such racial slurs as “racist, abominable, and unacceptable.”

Later on Friday, Spanberger reacted via a post, saying, “The signs that appeared were both racist and abominable. Virginians have not forgotten the segregated water fountains of our past, and this sort of rhetoric—regardless of intent—threatens to resurrect divisions reminiscent of Jim Crow.”

The woman responsible for the sign later clarified her intentions in an interview, stating, “It was meant to satirize and spark a conversation about the ridiculousness of prejudice. If anyone believes I actually support separate drinking fountains based on race, they’re mistaken.”
