Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said some of the concerns “deepened” on Thursday and that he wants more from Biden and his campaign to address concerns about his candidacy against former President Trump in November’s presidential election.
“We need more analysis and data that will show us a path to victory,” Trump told reporters after a special meeting with top Biden campaign advisers on Thursday.
Blumenthal said that after discussions with Biden’s senior advisers Mike Donilon and Steve Ricchetti and campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), “some of my concerns have been allayed and some have deepened.”

He described Biden’s solo news conference on Thursday evening at the conclusion of the NATO summit as “important” and “potentially a turning point.”
“But one press conference a week is not enough — they need to be held multiple times,” he added.

“Joe Biden must continue to effectively and aggressively respond to the concerns of the American people,” Blumenthal said.
The senator stressed that Biden must hold press conferences and interviews like he’s “currently doing.”

Blumenthal said he still had concerns, but added, “At this point, he’s the Democratic nominee. I support him.”
The Democratic senator also stressed that Biden must get back on the campaign trail himself, saying changes the president should make “cannot be done for him, cannot be done by his advisers or his staff.”

Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vermont), who on Wednesday became the first Democratic senator to call on Biden to drop out of the race, also attended the DSCC meeting. “This was an opportunity for the campaign to come and talk about where things stand and for senators to ask questions.” [and] “I have no comment,” he said later.
When reporters asked if his advisers had changed his mind about Biden’s candidacy, Trump replied, “That’s where I stand.” In a Washington Post op-ed on Wednesday, he said he didn’t believe Biden was the best Democratic candidate to beat Trump.
