Bo Bichette put on injured list in possible setback for Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are now facing a tough situation as they’ll likely be without one of their key players, Beau Bichette, for an upcoming series against the Yankees.

Toronto has placed Bichette on the 10-day injured list due to a sprain in his left knee. With just 19 games remaining in the season, the team is only two games ahead of the Yankees in the division race.

Bichette sustained the injury during a collision at home plate in the Bronx on Saturday.

Initially, it didn’t seem too serious. He managed to finish the game, and since the x-rays came back negative, it appeared his only issue was a cut on his left shin.

However, after experiencing pain over the weekend, the 27-year-old infielder underwent an MRI which confirmed the sprain.

“It’s frustrating,” he said. “Losing someone who’s a crucial part of the team is never easy. But we’re hopeful he can return soon. There’s a lot on our plate right now.”

Manager Schneider mentioned that the team remains optimistic about Bichette’s return before the end of the regular season, though he refrained from providing a specific timeline.

This week, Bichette will be taking it easy, and his absence might seriously impact the Blue Jays’ performance.

He has a season batting average of .311 and has been particularly strong since early July, boasting a .372 average and a 996 OPS. He currently ranks third in the race for the American League batting title. To fill his spot on the roster, the Blue Jays have called up Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Buffalo.

As it stands, the Yankees and Blue Jays won’t meet again this season.
