‘Boardwalk Empire’ actor Michael Stuhlbarg returns to Broadway stage after Central Park rock attack

The new film opened on Monday, a day after Stuhlbarg was walking near Central Park on the Upper East Side when 27-year-old Xavier Israel struck him in the back of the neck with a rock, leaving him with abrasions. .

Israel, who is homeless and on parole, has previously been arrested for two counts of assault and attempted robbery, both in January 2022, police and sources told The Post.

Stuhlberg was attacked less than three miles from where Arnold Rothstein, the character from the HBO drama series “Boardwalk Empire,” was shot and killed.

Police and officials said the man refused medical help after the attack, even though he reported pain and bruises to the back of his neck to authorities. The newspaper has contacted Stuhlbarg’s representatives for comment.

After Israel allegedly threw a rock at Mr. Stuhlberg, the actor chased him down the block.

In the same week, Israel attacked another stranger who tried to offer him help.

He was accused of randomly punching a male and female teenager who were sitting on a rock in the park.
