Boat-owning Trump fan shuts down CNN reporter who asks why he cares about the economy

A pro-Trump boat parade participant explained to CNN why a strong economy still matters to him, even though he has enough money to own and operate a boat.

CNN correspondent Elle Reeve asked Joe Harner what the most important issues are in the November election.

“I want to make better use of my money”

“The economy, getting interest rates down, getting them down to a level where you can live in America. At this point, they're too high,” Harner responded.

“Now, let me ask you a rude question, but if you can afford a boat, it can't hurt that much, right? Boats cost money, and they cost money to maintain,” Reeve asked.

“Look, nobody gave me anything,” Harner retorted. “Everything I have I earned. I'm a military veteran, I retired from a power plant, I retired successfully with my boat and jet skis, because I did the right thing. And anyone can have that opportunity. It's up to them to choose.”

“I would never try to take anything away from you in that way, but what I'm asking is, groceries are probably a smaller part of your budget than, say, someone who's a little bit poorer,” Reeve stressed. “I find it interesting that people who have a little bit of cushion are still so concerned about the economy, you know what I'm saying?”

“Because I want money to work better. I want inflation to go down. I want interest rates to go down. I want all of that. But it concerns everybody in the economy. It's not just about me, it's not just about poor people or rich people. It concerns everybody,” Harner explained, noting that he's taught his children how to be responsible with their money.

“Actually, they're doing better than me,” he joked.
