Body camera video shows the chaotic response to a deadly Citibank shooting in Florida

Newly released body-camera footage shows Hillsborough County deputies rushing into a Citibank campus in Tampa during Wednesday’s deadly shooting. They search for the gunman, and later an officer announces, “Shooter is down.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also released edited 911 calls documenting the response at the Sabal Center. A woman was killed, and an armed security guard fatally shot the gunman.

Authorities say the suspect drove through a fence at the Sabal Park Office Development, crashed into an outdoor seating area and shot a woman. He then opened fire inside the building’s cafeteria.

As deputies arrived at the sprawling campus, one is heard asking bystanders to describe the suspect. The deputy then reports that a vehicle has crashed onto the property and that the suspect is inside the cafeteria. After an officer calls out that the shooter is down, deputies begin escorting people from the building.

In the released 911 audio, a caller reports gunfire at Citibank while authorities coordinate their response, including plans to enter the building.

Dispatchers began receiving reports of shots fired at 12:11 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies arrived within a minute.

The sheriff’s office credited an armed Citibank security guard with stopping the gunman during an exchange of gunfire. The suspect was later pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital.

More than 3,200 people were on campus when the shooting happened, the sheriff’s office said. More than 400 law enforcement personnel responded, including 367 sheriff’s deputies.

“Thanks to the brave actions by the security team on-site and more than 365 deputies, this unhinged suspect was stopped before he could harm anyone else,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.
