Body Found in Mattapan Home Owned by Congressman’s Husband

Massachusetts State Police are currently investigating the discovery of a man’s body in a residential property located in Mattapan. This property is linked to Conan Harris, the husband of Democratic Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.

The building serves as a multifamily rental unit, owned by Harris. Authorities reported that they arrived at the scene around 1:52 p.m. on Saturday and found a man who seemed to have sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

The homicide unit has taken charge of the investigation. A local resident, Ali, mentioned, “When I got home, police were blocking parts of the street with crime tape, and neighbors were gathered around.” This incident has clearly shaken the community.

According to a spokesperson for Pressley, “The congressman extends his deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.” Harris also shared a message on Facebook, expressing gratitude for the public’s concern and assuring that his family is safe, while also lamenting the losses in the community.

Boston’s Democratic Mayor, Michelle Wu, commented on the ongoing investigation, stating, “We know the situation is still under investigation, and the Boston Police Department is diligently pursuing any information that comes our way.”

Pressley, who is known for being part of a progressive congressional group informally called “the Squad,” was first elected in 2018. She has often criticized the criminal justice system as inherently biased. In a past declaration, she stated, “Our families and communities continue to be plagued and destabilized by crises such as mass incarceration and police brutality.” In a 2020 interview, she openly supported the defunding movement, questioning why law enforcement is sent to deal with individuals struggling with mental health issues.

Interestingly, records indicate that the property in question was sold for $340,000 in 2021 and had recently been listed for $1.15 million before the sale was taken down on Saturday.
