Standoff Leads to Gruesome Discovery in Connecticut

A decomposed body and several explosive devices were uncovered in a Connecticut home following a lengthy standoff with a man who had barricaded himself inside, engaging in gunfire with law enforcement, officials reported.

Stamford police were called to a residence on Oak Lawn Avenue Tuesday morning after a 911 call from a sheriff’s office that was trying to enforce a court-ordered eviction.

The individual, identified as 63-year-old Jed Parkington, reportedly shot at officers multiple times throughout the day, causing damage to a patrol car and prompting officers to fire back.

Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the exchange of gunfire.

Later that day, authorities found Parkington dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police Chief Timothy Shaw indicated that as officers were clearing the premises following the standoff, they discovered the decomposed body on the second floor of the home.

In addition to the body, explosives such as pipe bombs, grenades, and Molotov cocktails were present in the house.

“This was an incredibly perilous situation that sadly led to two lives being lost,” Shaw remarked.

He also praised the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as well as firefighters and hostage negotiators who spent hours trying to communicate with Parkington.

The Stamford Police Bomb Squad was summoned to safely remove the explosives before detectives could conduct a thorough search of the rest of the home.

Authorities confirmed that the identity of the decomposed individual and the cause of death were still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the state Office of Inspector General is looking into the use of deadly force by officers during the standoff.

Court documents revealed that the bank had foreclosed on the property due to unpaid mortgage payments, requiring residents to vacate the premises in April.

A judge had ordered the evictions last month, allowing residents a chance to settle their mortgage debts.
