The body of an experienced hiker who went missing while hiking in Northern California days earlier has been found at the base of a waterfall.

Monterey County Sheriff Tina M. Nieto said in a press conference Friday that the body of 30-year-old Caroline Meister was found by search and rescue teams at the base of a waterfall near the Ventana River Trail around 10:45 a.m. Pacific Time. admitted that it had been discovered. wilderness.

Authorities said Meister was an experienced hiker and was carrying only snacks for the day when he disappeared and was not dressed or equipped for an overnight stay.

“Monterey County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue teams, drone teams and California Highway Patrol helicopters worked together throughout the day to search for Caroline,” police said in a statement.

Residents of Tassajara Zen Mountain Center told authorities that Meister was planning a loop hike back to Zen Mountain Center. She also mentioned hiking the “Windcave Trail.”

Police say the 30-year-old is a white adult female, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 150 pounds.

She had long brown hair, possibly tied back, and was last seen wearing teal boots and a blue bag.
