Utah Apartment Fire Rescues Residents

Residents of an apartment complex in Utah were jolted awake in fear on June 7 when the St. George Police Department informed them that their building was on fire. Body camera footage captures the harrowing moments as officers broke down the door and urged families to evacuate quickly. One resident’s confused response, “Wait, what?” was typical of the chaos unfolding.

In another clip, an officer is seen hastily guiding a shirtless man out into the orange glow of the flames, shouting, “Run, run!” The urgency in their voices was palpable as officers repeatedly instructed residents to exit the building.

Officers had to contend with a trapped individual on the second floor. They utilized ladders to help evacuate people, with shouts of “There’s another man over there!” piercing the tension-filled air.

Some residents struggled to respond. One officer shined a flashlight into the face of a sleeping civilian, insisting, “Hey, the building is on fire, we need to get out!” A loud bang then startled the others awake, prompting more frantic shouting from the officers as they physically pulled people from their beds.

The footage also revealed officers calmly assisting two young children, reassuring them as family members tried to comfort them. “Come here, buddy, I’ll get you over the wall, okay?” one officer can be heard saying.

As the situation escalated, a loud explosion was audible in the background while a mother with a baby in a stroller rushed outside. The chaos continued with an officer mentioning how the roof had collapsed on him, illustrating the severity of the fire.

Fortunately, while eight officers required hospital treatment for smoke inhalation, they have since been released. Reports indicate that the fire originated in one unit and quickly spread through the shared attic, ultimately affecting around 20 homes.

The St. George Police Department has been contacted for further details regarding the incident.
