Explosion in Tacoma Apartment Complex
Recently released video captured a striking moment when an explosion shook the electrical room of an apartment building in Tacoma, Washington, on Sunday. This incident sent flames and debris flying as firefighters responded to reports of smoke.
The footage shows firefighters prying open the door to the electrical room, only to be engulfed by thick smoke moments before a powerful explosion erupted. Windows shattered, and debris scattered while firefighters quickly evacuated the area.
After the explosion, the person filming briefly looked away, but upon refocusing, it was clear that firefighters were ensuring everyone was okay and distancing themselves from the dangerous scene.
The Tacoma Fire Department later confirmed that there were no injuries among firefighters or residents.
Firefighters were dispatched to the complex located at 6400 S. 12th St. around 5:37 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about the explosion and smoke emanating from electrical conduits. Residents activated the fire alarm, prompting an immediate evacuation.
In a statement, the fire department reported, “Eight buildings have been evacuated indefinitely. There are no active fires.” This precaution was taken in light of the situation.
As officials began their investigation, they identified a faulty transformer as the source of the smoke that affected multiple units. Residents were temporarily relocated to Hunt Middle School during this time.
The explosion occurred in the electrical room after firefighters had cut off power to the building. The Tacoma Fire Department is currently looking into the specifics of what caused this incident.
As efforts continue, the power company has permitted residents to return to all but 600 units while restoration work is underway. The American Red Cross has stepped in to assist those impacted by the evacuation.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion, ensuring thorough analysis and safety checks for the affected area.
