Boebert Critiques Trump’s Veto on Water Project Bill
Republican Representative Lauren Boebert expressed her discontent with President Trump after he vetoed a widely supported bill she co-sponsored. This bill aimed to reduce costs for a local water pipeline project in Colorado.
“President Trump decided to veto a completely non-controversial, bipartisan bill that passed both the House and Senate unanimously. Why? Because nothing says ‘America First’ like denying clean drinking water to 50,000 people in Southeast Colorado, many of whom enthusiastically voted for him all three elections,” Boebert remarked recently.
She further added, in a sarcastic tone, that she “must have missed the rally where he stood in Colorado and promised to personally derail critical water infrastructure projects. My bad, I thought the campaign was about lowering costs and cutting red tape.”
“But hey, if this administration wants to make its legacy blocking water projects that deliver water to rural Americans; that’s on them,” she concluded.
Boebert’s remarks came after Trump vetoed the Finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act, which had been unanimously passed. The proposed legislation would have eased repayment terms and eliminated interest payments for communities involved in the long-awaited Arkansas Valley Conduit pipeline project.
This project was first introduced during President Kennedy’s administration in 1962 but has faced delays, partly due to federal laws requiring local funding.
The vetoed bill aimed to support local entities struggling with the financial burden by extending their repayment period.
The White House stated that the veto was based on the president’s belief that the project represents a misuse of taxpayer money previously authorized by other administrations.
“More than $249 million has already been spent on the [pipeline], and total costs are estimated to be $1.3 billion,” the White House noted.
“H.R. 131 would continue the failed policies of the past by forcing Federal taxpayers to bear even more of the massive costs of a local water project – a local water project that, as initially conceived, was supposed to be paid for by the localities using it,” they continued.
“Enough is enough. My Administration is committed to preventing American taxpayers from funding expensive and unreliable policies,” the president stated.
