Jennifer Siebel Newsom Highlights Women’s Experiences in Republican Politics
Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the spouse of California Governor Gavin Newsom, discussed the implications of Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem’s exits from President Trump’s administration, suggesting that it signifies a larger trend impacting women within Republican circles.
Her remarks referenced Bondi’s announcement and Noem’s upcoming resignation as attorney general to pursue a private sector role on April 2nd. Furthermore, she mentioned Noem’s transition from the Department of Homeland Security to become a special envoy for the Shield of the Americas, with Sen. Markwayne Mullin set to succeed her.
In a video shared on Instagram, Newsom expressed, “It was no surprise to me that the first two prominent figures kicked out of this administration were women.” She pointed out that conservative women in Trump’s sphere may only thrive by catering to the interests of male leaders.
In her statement, she remarked:
“There is no safe place within this select patriarchal institution that systematically disrespects, belittles, devalues, and discriminates against women and girls. And this is where a relationship of complicity is born. Because when we align ourselves with those values, when we align ourselves with leaders who have publicly disrespected and degraded women and who have been found responsible for the abuse of women.”
She further noted that although women in such positions may seem powerful, this influence is fleeting, emphasizing that “eventually they will come through for you.”
Newsom concluded with a strong statement, asserting, “No woman is safe in President Trump’s Republican Party unless they have sufficient wealth or the ability to buy themselves job security. So my friends, regardless of your party affiliation, you may want to wake up and know this is for real. This is a war on all women.”
This week, John Nolte from Breitbart News reflected on Newsom’s views on gender politics. He mentioned her preference for the term “first partner” as a more gender-inclusive title and expressed hope that children would learn caregiving is a shared responsibility, not limited to one gender, highlighting Newsom’s anecdote about giving dolls to his sons.
Nolte also shared a practical tip for reading to children, suggesting substituting male pronouns with female ones in stories. He believes this supports the idea that women can occupy central roles in narratives. He echoed Newsom’s sentiment about the importance of dismantling gender roles and recognizing our shared humanity, along with noting her past comments regarding educational tours about societal issues in red states.
