Attorney General Deploys DOJ Troops for Immigration Officer Protection
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy has declared that federal troops will be dispatched to safeguard immigration officers and detention facilities nationwide.
This decision comes in the aftermath of a shooting incident on Wednesday at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) site in Dallas, Texas. The assailant, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Yarn, opened fire, injuring three detainees. Tragically, one suspect and one victim died at the scene, while two others required hospitalization.
“I have witnessed a fierce wave of violence directed at ICE officers across our country. The Department of Justice will not remain passive in the face of such lawlessness,” Bondy expressed on social media.
“Under my directive, DOJ agents will be stationed at ICE facilities, ensuring the protection of federal agents and property while apprehending those involved in federal crimes,” she stated.
Bondy has also tasked the National Joint Terrorism Task Force to monitor and investigate all individuals or organizations involved in acts of national terrorism, especially those perpetrating violence against federal personnel.
“The Department of Justice seeks the most serious charges against all individuals involved in these criminal groups,” she highlighted.
Last month, Christa Noem, the Director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, indicated that immigrants have experienced a staggering 1,000% rise in violent incidents, with the shooting in Dallas exemplifying the ongoing anti-ICE violence.
“While these relentless attacks aim to undermine our resolve, they only reinforce our commitment to our mission,” Bondy remarked.
“Ultimately, the rule of law will prevail,” the Attorney General concluded.
